Poor little boy!

Quinn had only napped for an hour today. He was really clingy and needy. He was coming toward me, tripped over his blanket, and fell. He hit the corner of a wooden chair. It's the chair where his booster sits when he eats. I immediately picked him up and knew he was hurt. I didn't know what he injured since he buried his face into my shoulder. He clinged onto me and wouldn't let go. I had to coax him to look at me. Then I saw the pile of blood streaming down his face. His eye had be gashed open. Surprisingly, he didn't cry for long.

This part of the story doesn't make sense to a lot of people.  Quinn has done this before.  He has a scar on the other eye from where he fell and hit the corner of our couch when it's reclined.  We didn't take him in to get stitches.  Instead a neighbor, an endodontist, came over and helped super glue the wound shut.

I called the neighbor (not the endodontist) to help me this time.  It worked last time...why not this time? Everything was going smoothly and we were waiting for it to dry.  The neighbor decided she needed to try to close the wound with her fingers.  When she touched it, the glue fell right into his eye.  That's when I knew we were in trouble.

I immediately flushed it out and called poison control.  They told me to take him straight to the ER.  So, that's what I did.  On the way, I had called Mike.  I explained what had happened.

I hated telling the nurses what had happened.  They didn't judge me and they said that this definitely wasn't the first case of super glue in the eye they've run into. They gave Quinn some gel in his eye to take the glue out.  His eye is back to normal and doing well.

Quinn ended up with 4 stitches.  It would have been 3 but the doctor made a new laceration because Quinn would not hold still.  He was such a fighter the whole time.  Even when they were putting the numbing gel on his eye he fought.  It was nice that they didn't have to give him shots.  We had to wait at least 40 minutes for it to numb.  During our wait, a trauma had come in, so our wait ended up being about 3 hours.  We didn't get home until 9:00.  The incident happened at 5:30.  Good thing American Idol was on T.V. to entertain us.  We don't have cable at home.

What a sad face!

We were there so long...the bed was tempting.

Quinn in better spirits.

They let us keep the tools they used to stitch Quinn.
