6 months

What Quinn is up to these days:

  • He started solid foods and is a super good eater. He's only tried a handful of things like rice cereal, squash, carrots, bananas, and peas. He doesn't particularly like squash. When eating it, he makes some really funny faces. He can't help but to open his mouth every time the spoon approaches. Sometimes he'll just keep his mouth open ready for the next bite. If I'm not fast enough he gets upset. He'll keep eating even though he isn't hungry. How do I know he's full? Well, he becomes super fussy.

  • He opens and closes his mouth when he is hungry. For a while, he would open his mouth anytime I would pick him up.
  • He can sit up without support. He can sit for a long time but he doesn't like to. I think he gets tired quickly and needs a change in position.
  • He reaches for everything. Once he has a hold of it, it goes directly into his mouth. He's mainly interested in the object that is in your hand. He will eat his toes whenever the opportunity presents itself. He loves his pacifier. When he is upset it almost always calms him.
  • He loves signing time. When that gets turned on he is glued to the t.v. He's not particularly interested in other shows. Maybe he has a crush on Rachel. ;)
  • He blows raspberries. Not only that he can also pucker, click his tongue, and make farting noises. He seems to be constantly chewing even if there isn't anything in his mouth.

  • He does well with tummy time. He can stay for a while but once prefers not to. He can lift his shoulders off the ground and extend them straight. Because he can doesn't mean it does it a lot.
  • He jabbers all the time. He loves to hear himself. He gets sassy when he's angry especially around feeding or nap time. He has recently started screaming. They mainly are playful but every once in a while they mean he's serious. It usually is a warning that he is going to get super grumpy if something isn't done to meet his need or if he doesn't get the attention he wants.
  • He flirts with almost anyone. He loves people especially babies (this is good because he used to not.) He is quite disruptive in church because he tries to get his hands on the baby in the next pew. He smiles, jabbers, and moves his arms in a downward position (like he's trying to poop or something) in excitement.
  • Quinn is very happy. He will be laying on the bed or in his bouncer watching me get ready for the day and will all of a sudden starting laughing. He thinks almost everything is funny. He loves peak-a-boo. He loves to hang upside and loves playing airplane. He is very ticklish. Basically, what he loves the most is attention from mom and dad. The best is when he wakes from his nap. He kicks and throws his arms in excitement. Then, he is momentarily snugly when picked up. (Quinn hates to cuddle or snuggle. He's too busy looking around the room or is in the process of eating something.)
  • Quinn is always busy doing something. When he is put in his car seat or stroller (someplace he has to be strapped in) he always tries to get out. He does a half sit up and stays that way. He looks like he's ready to run. He gets mad that he can't.
  • Quinn is tough. He's been able to stand for some time now. He thrusts himself back so hard I usually can't control him. He bridges. Also, I try my best to keep him bundled but he hates it. He fusses because he can't use his hands. He doesn't mind the cold. He loves to be outside.
  • Quinn is smart. We will try to play tricks on him and they only work the first time. For example, Mike sneaked up on him to scare him. Well, when he went to show me, Quinn was ready and expected Mike. If I do something, he will watch me intensely and will try to mimic it. That is how he learned to blow raspberries, make farting noises, click his tongue, etc.
  • Quinn has been sleeping through the night since he was 2.5 months. He used to be better but I wonder if it is from the weather and time change. I really can't complain because he wakes between 7:00 and 8:00 each morning. He has a routine for naps and bed time. His routine consists of putting his pajamas on, nursing, reading a story or singing a song while rocking in the glider, and then being bundled in his crib. If I skip reading or singing he complains and won't go to sleep. Basically, he doesn't want to just be put in his crib.

I am so thankful for Quinn. In this short little time that he's been here with me, he has already taught me so much. I have a better understand what this life is all about. I know by having him I am a much happier person. He truly is a blessing in my life.

OuR LiTtLe MoUsE

The whole reason we had chosen Quinn to be a mouse was for his Grandpa Dale. Grandpa is deathly afraid of mice and rats. Every year we do something to tease him. We thought it would be fun for Quinn to play along too. I think Quinn was too cute to really scare him. It made him smile so it was well worth it.

We had been looking forward to our ward party ever since we found out about it. We wanted to show Quinn off, of course! I put Quinn down for a nap thinking that he wouldn't sleep for very long. The time came and he was still asleep. I know when he doesn't get his sleep Quinn gets so grumpy. I wanted him to wake on his own. Mike couldn't stand it anymore and woke him. Quinn, surprisingly, was in a good mood.

Mike basically powered walked to the church because he was afraid that he would miss the party. In fact, we got there right in time. Trunk or treating had just started.

Mike had so much fun showing Quinn off. I've never seen anyone more excited and
anxious than he. Mike really is a good dad.

Mike's favorite thing to say to people when receiving the candy was, "Well, Quinn will eat it eventually...just secondhand! Angie needs to eat it first."

Grandma Karen came with us since she would miss the actual Halloween. She went to Arizona for her grandson's baptism.

THE HALLOWEEN OLYMPICS

Our Halloween Party wasn't your everyday typical Halloween Party. It was funner and way cooler!

Caryn and I had planned some way fun activities. Surprisingly, everyone was cooperative.

EVENT 1: PUMPKIN BOWLING

Right away, after Dale bowled, the pumpkin lost his insides. We put it back together the best we could using tape. As you can see in the other pictures, it worked really well.

Creative!

Mike was really helpful and put the 2 liters back into place for the next bowler.

STRIKE!

I did better in pumpkin bowling than in real bowling. Too bad, my score doesn't even compare! Good news! We had won this event. WAHOO!

EVENT 2: PUDDING PICTIONARY

Sorry for the blurry picture!

This is played like normal pictionary but instead you draw in the pudding. The object was to guess the item being drawn before the other team. Each time had their own pudding. This event wasn't our best. We didn't get any before anyone else.

I don't know who won this event since we didn't keep score.

EVENT 3: BEAN BAG TOSS

I don't remember the scoring exactly but I do know that where my bean bag landed was the highest scoring spot. Even though I got one on exactly we didn't win this round. Caryn and Ty did!

EVENT 4: BOBBING FOR APPLES

This by far was the funniest event.

Sonnet went first...

Before

After

I admit it! Right after I saw Sonnet go I was deathly afraid of my turn. I didn't want to become a drowned rat.

Quinn got super hungry right after so I went into the other room with him. I thought I was off the hook. Nope, they waited. It wasn't as bad as I thought.

They were kind to record it for me!

EVENT 5: FREEZING FEET

The object was to put as many marbles as you can in the other tin before 1 minute hits. This is actually a lot harder than it looks. I'd like to think that I do fairly well picking things up with my toys. I thought I was going to do really good. Well, I was wrong. I only got four. That was about average. Caryn did so good. We thought it was because she went first and the ice hadn't melted. She went again and got so many! We were all impressed.

I'm not sure who the overall winner was. Probably Caryn and Ty because they won the bean bag toss and the freezing feet events.

Coming soon...is a group photo!

Small Mini Vacation

Usually working at Blacker's is the same of mundane tasks. This time Mike got to do something a little bit more exciting. He had a guy come in that had just bought a cabin in Island Park. He needed some furniture bids. He decided that he would let us go to his cabin and spend the night. That way Mike could get more of an idea of what he's looking for.

He didn't have to tell us twice. We packed and were on our way. The guy had drawn us a map. By the looks of it the map didn't look too difficult to follow. We were basically there when we pulled up to a cabin thinking it was the one. Well, we couldn't find a keypad to get in. It was kind of frustrating because we didn't think to get a key. After a while of trying to find a way in we received a call. By the information that was given us we finally figured out we were at the wrong place.

The map wasn't clear what it was so we pulled into each driveway until we found a key pad. When we found the right one we were super excited because it was way nice. Right when we walked in we had to explore the place. Mike was all geared up to take pictures and then changed his mind. He decided to wait until there was more light (since it was dark by this time.)

As you can tell it's still under construction (somewhat.) Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures from the outside. These are only a few of the rooms.

We got settled in and Mike decided that he NEEDED some ice cream. I wasn't in any particular mood to go get some but I went anyways. We settled on some root beer floats. We had this great plan of leaving on one of the light to make sure we could find the cabin a lot easier in the dark. You could guess! Yep, it took us a long time to find the right one again. I felt so lame!

I was so worried about Quinn sleeping a new place since this would be his first time. I shouldn't have because he slept better than Mike and I. He fell asleep in his bouncer around 10:00 and he didn't wake until 9:00. I think that he slept better that night than he does at home. For me, on the other hand, had the worst night sleep in forever. Mike couldn't sleep so he went out and watched a movie. I was excited about this because I wanted the bed to myself. I got up around 1:00 to go to the bathroom and heard Mike snoring. So, I assumed I would get it to myself the whole night. Well, Mike at 2:00 came in. He touched my shoulder to get me to move over. I screamed and started kicking. For some reason I thought I was being attacked. Because I was riled up I couldn't get back to sleep till 5:00. I was so hot and had to go in the other room to open some windows. Then, I woke at 8:00.

I thought he was so cute in these pajamas. They were perfect for where we were. Thank you Karalee!

Where Runt Slept

The next day we took a while getting ready for the day. About 1:00 we had this great idea to go to West Yellowstone. We thought, "it's not that far way, why not?" We headed out! (We stopped at the gas station to make our root beer floats since we didn't have them the night before. We got some strange looks but other than that no one thought anything of us!)

We arrived at the service station. For some reason we didn't realize you had to pay! It's been a while since we've both been. $25 later we were in. We started our drive toward Old Faithful. Little did I know how cool West Yellowstone really was. Mike said that my eyes lit up when passed every little thing.

Buffalo (I'm so excited!)

Mike also being enthused!

You pass lots of this on the way to Old Faithful

Old Faithful was the coolest. We arrived and found out that we had about 30-45 minutes until she was scheduled to go off again. It was cold and I needed to go to the bathroom so we went inside the lodge. The plan was to hurry and feed Quinn and change his diaper. Then we learned that he had a blowout all the way down his leg and up his back. Since I had just come from the bathroom, I didn't find a baby changing table. We went upstairs and just found a corner. We went to work. Mike started with his bottom half and I tackled his top half. Of course, he started to scream bloody murder. We got a lot of looks and observers. Finally, with that mess cleaned up, we thought we were going to miss her going off. I hurried and fed him enough to get him by.

Finally There!

We went outside and found out that we had another 10 minutes. Remember, it was cold. We wished we didn't rush so fast to get out there. We patiently waited. Quinn was happy inside of his stroller (for the most part...Mike had to push him for a minute or two to get him calmed down.)

Yes, he got his 4 month shots. :( Poor Quinn! He hasn't been reacting well to his immunizations.

Once again I thought I'd share his stats.

RUNT CAN STAND

Quinn has been able to do this for some time now but finally we caught it on video. Most people find this quite entertaining. Quinn prefers this position over most when being held. It's kind of funny! Anyways, here's his trick you've all been waiting to see.

Obviously, he has the strength but not the balance! Considering he's almost 4 months in this video I think he is absolutely amazing!

Yay, for a new roof!

We got the special privilege of redoing our roof! Let's say it needed it real bad. There were 4 layers of shingles and the boards by the awning were rotting. We were lucky to have the help we did. The main man responsible for making this project happen was Gene. Thank you, Gene!

This was day #2. Too bad I didn't get any pictures before this.

The finished roof. Doesn't it look professional?

Karen came over everyday to help with Quinn so I could do lunch and be the errand girl for everyone. Over the period of 2 days we had Danny, Dad Mike, Gene, Jason, and the missionaries help. Everyone was greatly appreciated for their service. Thank you!

Welcome Home

Mike's parents came home today from their mission. They were serving in Salt Lake City.

We are defiantly excited to have them back. Karen is super excited to be living so close to a grandchild. The rest of her grandkids are either in Minnesota or Arizona. So you know what this means, right? Quinn is going to be spoiled! Yay!

WELCOME HOME GENE AND KAREN!

Mike: The Best Man!

Mike's old roommate Zach LaFevre got married to Kim Olsen on Aug. 20, 2010.
Mike was able to go and be a part of the wedding as Zach's "best man." If you're wondering the other girl in the picture is Kim's bridesmaid Pam.

For all you Twilight lovers! Guess where Kim and Pam are from?!?
Forks, Washington.

Congratulations to Kim and Zach! You are so perfect for each other.

Quinn's baby blessing

Our precious boy had his special day today. It was such a touching moment having Quinn blessed. His dad did such a good job. I think this was one of the times I felt the spirit the strongest. I appreciated all the family and friends that were able to be there for this special occasion. It just shows how much support we really do have. Thank you everyone for all they have done for our little family.

We had a hard time choosing an outfit and thought we would take pictures of the runner ups. Quinn ended up wearing his daddy's blessing outfit (which made it more sentimental.)

Outfit #1: Daddy's outfit fit the best!

Outfit #2: Way too big!

Outfit #3: The top fit but the pants were way too big for me!
